Buying for young members of the female gender used to be fairly simple. The usual gifts for girls were dolls or other “domestic” toys. Today, girls and younger women are interested in much more than domesticated presents. Today, presents for girls have much more variety.
In today’s technological society, girls are on cellular phones, working with computers, listening to MP3’s and playing video games. Girls ages 10 - 20 appreciate gifts like software, ring tones, iTunes, video games and minutes for their cell phone. Before running out and buying any of these products, you should first find out where her tastes lie. For instance, not just any video game would do.
Music is usually a safe choice providing you know her specific tastes. Buy her a C.D. of one of her favorite bands; give her an iTunes gift card, buy tickets to the next concert that features her favorite band. Even the younger girls like music in one way or the other.
Pre-teen girls might like “The American Girl” series, older teens give good reviews to “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants”. Right now, Stephenie Meyer’s series, “Twilight” is popular amongst young to older teenage girls. Books are a fantastic gift idea.
Give the gift of dream support. Whatever her dreams and goals are, encourage them by helping her along. Dancers love dance outfits and dance shoes; writers like pens and journals; a blossoming singer might want some voice lessons (be sure to give this carefully to encourage and not offend); a soccer player might appreciate some new equipment and an artist is always in need of supplies.
Jewelry will always be popular with most members of the female persuasion. Charm bracelets are a nice idea, especially if you continue to add charms as holidays and other special occasions come up. Earrings, necklaces and rings will never go out of style when it comes to buying for girls.
Give her the gift of your time. Take her out to eat and then to a movie. You might take her bowling or put-put golfing. Shopping at the mall is rarely a bad idea for a gift when it comes to girls. If you cannot go with her, give her gift cards that allow for two people (such as movies, bowling and miniature golf).
If you know what interests a girl and what she finds the most important, it really is not that hard to pick out a gift. Family and close friends can probably tell you what she likes, especially if the person you ask is female.
